Salem, VA (May 10, 2010) - Kyle Hudson went 3-4 with two RBI and Billy Rowell drove in three runs to lead Frederick past Salem 7-2 on Monday night at Lewis-Gale Field. The visiting Keys scored twice in the top of the first and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire in the opener of a four-game series. With the loss, Salem falls to 21-10, losers of three straight for the first time this year. Since Winston-Salem won, the Sox and Dash now share the first-place position in the Carolina League Southern Division.

Keys lefthander Rick Zagone surrendered just a pair of runs in five solid innings to earn his first victory of the season. Salem scored two runs with two outs in the second on three successive hits from Drew Hedman, Alex Hassan, and Ryan Dent, but mustered little offense the rest of the night, not advancing a runner beyond second base over the final seven innings. Hassan finished 2-3 with a single, a double, an RBI, and a walk, while Will Middlebrooks went 2-4 in the cleanup spot to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

Salem starter Stolmy Pimentel was tagged with the loss, his second of the season, after he was chased from the game after four plus innings. Pimentel yielded a two-run single to Rowell in the first and an RBI single to Ronnie Welty in the second. Though he tossed scoreless third and fourth innings, his fifth began with ten straight balls out of the zone. After walking Hudson and Welty, Joe Mahoney blasted a double to bring home another run and knock Pimentel out of the game. Reliever Mitch Herold induced an RBI-grounder from Rowell and stranded the other baserunner, but Frederick led 5-2 after five.

The Keys plated two more against Herold in the sixth, using a walk, an infield hit, a passed ball, and a two-run single from Hudson to make it 7-2. Salem's bullpen quieted the Keys the rest of the way, with Kyle Fernandes tossing two scoreless frames and Blake Maxwell pitching a perfect ninth. But for the second day in a row, the clutch hits were lacking.

While Frederick went 5-15 with runners in scoring position, Salem went 1-7. In the last two games, the Sox have uncharacteristically gone 1-22 with runners in scoring position.

Still sharing the best record in the league with Winston-Salem, the Sox look to snap the skid on Tuesday night against the Keys. Brock Huntzinger, victorious in his last two outings, gets the start for Salem opposite Ryan O'Shea for Frederick. First pitch at Lewis-Gale Field is scheduled for 7:05.

NOTE: Prior to Monday's game, Salem first-baseman Anthony Rizzo was promoted to double-A Portland. No corresponding transaction has been made, and the current Salem roster sits at 24.
