Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ-Ryan Howard's return to Lakewood was quite successful in more ways than one, as the 2006 NL MVP and 2002 Lakewood BlueClaws first baseman was 2-3 and one of the 2 was a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 7th to left field which broke a 3- all tie in a 7-4 Lakewood win.

Rehabbing a strained quad, Howard played his first of two games with the BlueClaws this week before joining the Phillies Friday in Atlanta.

8,063 came out to FirstEnergy Park and were rewarded with the 20th homer in Howard's BlueClaws career (2nd on list) and his 4 RBIs (including a run-scoring double in the 3rd) now put him tied for first on the list with Randy Ruiz (91). The home run came off of Hagerstown reliever Chris Lugo.

Howard's home run was his 20th as a BlueClaws player. He is 2nd all-time behind Juan Richardson, who has 22.

Darren Byrd pitched into the 7th inning and allowed just 1 earned run (3 total). Garet Hill tossed 1.2 and improved to 3-1. Ronald Hill got his 8th save of the season.

Jason Donald and Howard each had RBI doubles in the 3rd inning which tied the game at 2. Howard's HR gave Lakewood a 6-3 lead, and PJ Antoniato added an RBI single in the 7th.

Berry was 2-4 and Donald was 2-3 with 2 RBIs, with each scoring 2 runs. Antoniato was 3-4 with an RBI.

It was Lakewood's (23-20) season-high 4th win in a row and they have taken the first 3 games of the 4- game series.

Howard will continue his rehab on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. in the final game of the 4-game series. RHP Edgar Garcia (1-2, 3.60) opposes RHP Don Levinski (0-1, 18.90). You can hear the game on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB).
