Hagerstown Suns News Release
Lakewood, NJ: The Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Suns 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park. Ryan Howard, making a rehab start for the 'Claws went 2-3 with 4 RBI.
The Suns (19-27) jumped out in front early in the first with two runs thanks to two hits and an error. However, in the 3rd inning, Ryan Howard, the NL MVP making his first of two rehab starts for the BlueClaws struck for a RBI double of Yunior Novoa to tie the game at 2 after the 'Claws had tied it two batters earlier. The 'Claws then took the lead in the 4th thanks to a two-out double by Matt Reed and a RBI single by Jason Donald. Hagerstown then tied it in the 5th on a sac RBI fly by Marcos Cabral to make the score 3-3. Novoa was then lifted after 5, yielding 3 runs on 9 hits. Chris Lugo came on in the 6th and set down the 'Claws in order. However, in the 7th, the big fella, Howard, came through again. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one away, Howard, who hit 58 homers last season for the Phillies hit a long fly ball for a 3-run bomb over the left field fence off of Lugo (0-2) and gave the 'Claws (23-20) a 6-3 lead. They later added one more in the inning for a 7-3 advantage.
The Suns got one back in the 8th with a RBI single by Brett McMillan to plate Chris Marrero who doubled. But that was it, as the Suns went down quietly in the 9th against Ronald Hill to lose their 3rd consecutive. Hagerstown is now 4-4 on their 9-game, 8-day road trip and will look to salvage the finale tomorrow.
Tomorrow, the Suns and BlueClaws will play the finale at FirstEnergy Park, with the first pitch coming at 6:35PM. The return home on Friday to kick off a weekend series against the Delmarva Shorebirds. For tickets, please call the Suns at 301-791-6266 or visit them on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
