Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats on a picture perfect Wednesday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium in front of 2,757 fans.
The Gnats scored in the first inning as Hector Pellot was hit by a pitch and later stole second. Leivi Ventura then singled to center scoring Pellot giving the Gnats an early one run lead. The Braves countered in the second. Jon Mark Owings walked and Danny Brezeale followed with a two run homer (1) giving the Braves a 2-1 lead. The Gnats tied the game at two a piece in the third as Joe Holden doubled to left and scored on a Sean McCraw single.
Rome seized the win in the eleventh inning. With the bases loaded, Willie Cabrera hit an infield single scoring Brandon Monk from third to give Rome the 3-2 victory.
James Curtis gets the win for the Braves (1-0), while Savannah pitcher Jonathan Castillo records the loss (0-2).
