Howard Dominates as Nuts Rout Giants 8-0

Modesto, CA. - Sam Howard pitched the Modesto Nuts to an 8-0 triumph over the San Jose Giants on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 4,061 at John Thurman Field.

In his start for the Nuts (20-29) Howard (W, 3-3) battled some control issues in the first three innings walking three batters. He allowed just two hits, both were two-out extra base knocks in the third and fourth innings. After the double at the end of the fourth, Howard retired the final 13 batters he faced while striking out a total of ten Giants (28-19).

Shane Hoelscher powered the offense early when he roped a double in the first off Giants starter Jason Forjet (L, 5-3). Hoelscher scored on Drew Weeks RBI single. Hoelscher added to the Nuts lead with a solo home run in the fourth.

The Nuts opened things up with a four-run sixth. Dom Nunez cracked a RBI single. Forrest Wall recorded the biggest blow with a three-run, bloop double to turn the game into a rout.

Forjet worked 5.2 innings allowing six runs on seven hits.
