Early Offense Dooms Nuts in 5-2 Loss

San Jose, CA. - A shaky start sent the Modesto Nuts to a 5-2 loss against the San Jose Giants on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

After the Nuts (20-30) took the lead in the first on Dom Nunez's sac fly, the Giants (28-19) plated five unanswered runs against Nuts starter Carlos Polanco (L, 1-3).

In the second Junior Arias recorded a RBI single. Later in the inning Brandon Bednar scored on an error by Nuts third baseman Shane Hoelscher.

In the third, the Giants cracked three extra-base hits against Polanco to plate three runs. Jonah Arenado smacked a RBI single. Jose Vizcaino, Jr. delivered a sac fly and Ty Ross smashed a RBI double.

The Nuts bullpen was good tossing five scoreless innings. Helmis Rodirguez posted three perfect frames. Tyler Matzek threw his first full inning with the Nuts with one strikeout. Logan Cozart recorded a perfect eighth.

Martin Agosta (W, 3-0) settled in after giving up one run on four hits in his first two innings by retiring 14 in a row.
