Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Visalia, CA - The Quakes split a double-header from Visalia on Sunday afternoon, completing their seven-game road trip with a split at Recreation Park.
Andrew Sopko won his team-leading sixth game of the year in game one, while Jordan Tarsovich homered twice in a 6-3 win to start the day.
The Quakes took a lead to the bottom of the seventh inning in game two, but the Rawhide tallied a pair of runs off of Karch Kowalczyk, taking a 4-3 victory to salvage a split of the double-header, as well as the four-game series.
Sopko (6-0) worked into the sixth inning in game one, as he allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings, earning his team-leading sixth win of the year.
Tarsovich broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning with his fourth homer of the year, a three-run shot off Visalia starter Brad Keller (3-4). Tarsovich connected again in the fifth, helping give the Quakes a 5-1 lead.
The Rawhide got a pair of runs in the sixth, but Kyle Hooper came on and got the final two outs of the sixth and all three outs in the seventh for his first save of the year.
In game two, Matt Beaty struck for a two-run single in the first, as the Quakes took an early 2-0 lead.
Grant Holmes was overwhelming through the first four innings, as he struck out six without allowing a hit. With the Quakes up 2-0 in the fifth though, Holmes gave up a lead-off single to Rudy Flores, followed by a double to Henry Castillo, putting the tying runs in scoring position. After a pair of strikeouts, Holmes allowed a two-run single to Colin Bray, tying the game at 2-2.
The Quakes took the lead in the seventh without the aid of a hit, as Visalia reliever Bud Jeter (6-0) walked the bases loaded, then gave up a one-out safety-squeeze to Pin-Chieh Chen, making it 3-2.
Kowalcyzk (1-2) gave up a game-tying homer to Castillo to open the seventh, then with runners at second and third and only one out, allowed the game-winner to Robelys Reyes, an RBI single to left for the 4-3 Visalia win.
Holmes finished with one of his best outings of the year in the no-decision, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings, striking out nine while walking just one.
The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, June 1st, as they host the Lake Elsinore Storm in the first game of a seven-game home stand.
Josh Sborz (4-2) will get the nod on Wednesday, with Lake Elsinore throwing Zech Lemond in the series-opener.
June 1st is another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as four-legged friends are welcome at LoanMart Field with the purchase of a $3 Pet Pass. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
