Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Brooks Marlow delivered a two-run single to highlight a three-run rally by the JetHawks in the bottom of the eighth, as they came from behind to knock off the High Desert Mavericks 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.
Johnny Sewald got the home eighth started with a walk and Drew Ferguson followed with a bunt single. Ramon Larueano reached on an error by High Desert second baseman Travis Demeritte, which loaded the bases with nobody out. The Mavericks summoned left-hander Jason Richman to face the left-handed hitting Marlow, who delivered his decisive single on an 0-2 pitch. Bryan Muniz followed with an RBI single of his own.
High Desert opened the scoring in the second inning when Juremi Profar hit a solo home run off JetHawks starter Scott Weathersby. The right-hander recovered nicely, however, as he retired the next seven batters he faced. Weathersby took a no-decision, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings.
The JetHawks took the lead with a three-run third inning. Jason Martin opened the frame with a home run, his team-leading seventh of the season. Two batters later, Kristian Trompiz tripled and Johnny Sewald drove him in with an RBI single. Ramon Laureano delivered an RBI sacrifice fly for the third run of the inning.
It remained 3-1 until the fifth, when the Mavericks responded with a three-run frame themselves. All of the runs scored with two out. Scott Heineman brought in a pair with a triple to center field and Jairo Beras doubled on a ball that got lost in the sun in right field and fell.
Ryan Thompson (1-1) tossed 2.1 shutout innings in relief, struck out four and picked up the win, setting the table for Ryan Deemes in the ninth to earn his second save in as many opportunities. Austin Pettibone (0-2) suffered the loss for High Desert.
The JetHawks (23-25) and Mavericks (31-20) conclude their four-game series on Monday afternoon at The Hangar. Brock Dykxhoorn (4-1) will start for Lancaster against David Ledbetter (1-4). First pitch is 2:05 p.m.
The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
