LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The Stockton Ports were in dire need of a win and got one on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond. The Boys of Banner Island snapped a three-game losing skid with a 4-3 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm, giving them the opportunity to earn a series split in Monday afternoon's series finale.

For a second straight game the Ports opened the scoring in the top of the first. Richie Martin led off with a double and scored on a one-out RBI single by Seth Brown to put the Ports up 1-0.

Lake Elsinore tied the score in the bottom of the third. With two outs and the bases empty, Josh VanMeter hit a solo home run to right field to knot the game at 1-1.

Stockton came back with a three-run fourth inning that would ultimately carry them to victory. Brown led off with a single and scored on an ensuing double by Joe Bennie to give the Ports a 2-1 lead. Sandber Pimentel followed with a two-run homer to right field to give the Ports a 4-1 advantage.

Storm starter Zech Lemond (1-1) would go on to pitch through the seventh inning but suffer the loss, allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out three.

Ports starter Zack Erwin (2-5) allowed a leadoff triple to Franmil Reyes in the fourth and Reyes scored on an ensuing groundout by Edwin Moreno to make it a 4-2 game. River Stevens led off the fifth inning with a home run to right to cut the Stockton lead to 4-3. Erwin, though, would pitch around an ensuing single and limit the Storm to just the one run in the fifth. Erwin gave up a leadoff single in the sixth but retired the next two batters before being lifted for Koby Gauna, who got Marcus Greene, Jr. to fly out to end the inning.

Erwin picked up his second victory of the season, going 5.2 innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four.

Gauna would pitch a perfect inning-and-a-third in relief. Carlos Navas (SV, 2) entered the game to begin the eighth and pitched around a one-out single in the eighth. Navas went on to set the side down in order in the ninth to notch his second save of the season.

Trevor Seidenberger and Colby Blueberg combined to pitch two perfect innings down the stretch for Lake Elsinore.

The Ports and Storm wrap up their four-game set with a Memorial Day matinee at The Diamond. Kyle Friedrichs (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his California League debut for Stockton, opposed by Lake Elsinore right-hander Dinelson Lamet (6-1, 1.67 ERA). First pitch is set for 1 p.m. PDT.
