
Houston Rockets sign forward Alexander Johnson

NEW YORK - The Houston Rockets today signed forward Alexander Johnson of the Sioux Falls Skyforce, making him the record 36th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season. Johnson joins 81 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience.
Johnson has appeared in 22 games, 10 starts, for Sioux Falls this season. He averaged 23.0 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 32.5 minutes, scoring in double figures 21 times and registering 12 double-doubles. He recorded season-highs of 31 points and 19 rebounds in a 99-98 road win over the Maine Red Claws on March 7.
A key contributor for Sioux Falls, Johnson led the team in rebounds in 16 of the 22 games in which he played and was the leading scorer 10 times. For his play this season, Johnson earned NBA D-League's Player of the Month honors for games played in March, while also being named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week on March 8. In March, Johnson averaged 24.5 points, 10.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists, leading the Skyforce to a 9-3 record.
Originally selected by the Indiana Pacers in the second round, 45th overall, of the 2006 NBA Draft, Johnson rejoins the NBA having played 102 games for the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. He owns NBA career averages of 4.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 12.8 minutes.
A four-year contributor at Florida State, Johnson averaged 13.2 points and 7.1 rebounds during his senior season when he earned honorable mention All-ACC accolades.
Johnson is expected to join the Rockets today and be available tonight when the team hosts the Charlotte Bobcats in Houston.
