
Hot Start, Clutch Defense Fuel Energy to 107-100 Win over Sioux Falls

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Energy scored 71 first half points, but multiple stops down the stretch to defeat the Sioux Falls Skyforce 107-100 Friday night.
Iowa drilled 10 of 12 three-pointers in the opening half to take a 71-57 lead into the halftime break. Sioux Falls, currently in the 7th playoff spot, rallied in the third quarter as they tied the game at 81-81 with 2:22 left.
The Energy rattled off the next four points to regain an 85-81 lead with twelve minutes remaining. The visitors responded by scoring seven of the next nine points to take an 88-87 lead on a Chris Ayer putback dunk with 9:23 left. An Ayer layup on the next possession gave the Skyforce a three point lead.
After the Central Division rivals exchanged scores, the Energy went on a 7-3 run of their own to take a 96-95 lead with 3:54 remaining in the contest. Just over a minute later, James Mays scored to put Sioux Falls up 97-96.
With the game in the balance, Othyus Jeffers took over - scoring four straight points to put Iowa up 100-97 with 2:04 left on the clock. After an Andre Barrett turnover, Justin Hurtt canned an 18-foot jumper to put the Energy up five.
The Energy, who held Sioux Falls to only five points in the final 5:18 of the game, made five of eight free throws in the final minutes to ice the game.
Jeffers finished with 17 points while Paul Harris added 16 for Iowa. Center Jarrid Famous pulled down a game high 14 rebounds for the Enregy, who made 29 of 38 free throws on the night.
Mychel Thompson led Sioux Falls with 21 points while Mays contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds. Andre Barrett had a double-double with 12 points and 13 assist.
Sioux Falls made only 10 of 25 (40%) free throws on the night.
