
Vipers Fall to Warriors

HIDALGO, Texas -- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers fell 114-104 to the Santa Cruz Warriors tonight at State Farm Arena.
Chris Johnson led the Vipers with a double-double 23 points, 11 rebounds. Chris Daniels tallied 19 points and Andrew Goudelock recorded 17 points. Royce White added 13 points and Glen Rice, Jr. scored 10 points. D.J. Kennedy also added 11 rebounds.
Six players scored double digits for the Warriors. Stefhon Hannah led the Warriors with 22 points. Hilton Armstrong followed with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and Cameron Jones added 15 points.
The Warriors held control in the first quarter. Santa Cruz held RGV scoreless for the first three minutes of action. White put the Vipers on the board with a free throw and Johnson got the momentum going with a shot from behind the arc. The Warriors maintained control and held a 25-19 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
RGV came back fighting in the second quarter. Murry tied the game at 31 points with a dunk at the 7:59 mark. Neither team could build a significant lead. The game tied six times throughout the quarter. In the second quarter, the Vipers outscored the Warriors 33-27. The teams finished the first half tied at 52 points.
The Vipers powered through the third quarter. With 1:55 on the clock, Goudelock sank a free throw that gave RGV a 93-77 advantage. Lance Goulbourne and Mickell Gladness fought back for the Warriors to close the gap to 10 points, 96-86 at the end of the third.
Santa Cruz used a 20-2 run that started midway through the fourth quarter to win the game. With 5:50 on the clock and the Vipers up 102-90, Jones sank a jump shot that sent the Warriors on the run. Johnson sank two free throws late in the quarter, but the Vipers could not catch up. The Warriors won 114-104.
The Vipers are at home Saturday night when they host the Los Angeles D-Fenders in a 7 p.m. contest at State Farm Arena. Fans can listen to Vipers games live on Fox Sports 1700 and can watch the games live on the NBA Development League Network on YouTube.
