Hot Rods Sink Captains in 13-4 Rout

EASTLAKE, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods battered the Lake County Captains tonight, 13-4, at Classic Park. Bowling Green sent 12 batters to the plate in the top half of the first inning, scoring seven runs, en route to win number 70 on the season.

The Hot Rods collected six hits in the top half of the first inning, and chased starter RHP Juan Hillman after just eight batters. In a half-inning that lasted 28 minutes, SS Taylor Walls, C Ronaldo Hernandez, 3B Zach Rutherford, RF Eleardo Cabrera, and LF Emilio Gustave each collected RBI base knocks, while DH Moises Gomez had an RBI sac fly. It was 7-0 Bowling Green before Lake County could even come to the plate.

1B Jim Haley added two more runs in the second on a long home run to left field, making it 9-0 Hot Rods through two innings.

In the fourth, CF Carl Chester scored on a Rutherford RBI single, pushing the lead to 10-0.

Lake County got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, and again in the fifth, making it 10-2 Hot Rods through five innings.

Hernandez added another RBI with a groundout in the sixth, scoring Walls, and it was 11-2 Bowling Green.

Back-to-back home runs from the Captains in the bottom of the inning made it a seven-run lead at 11-4.

Bowling Green added a run in the seventh on a Brujan RBI double and then in the ninth Cabrera hammered a ball to right field for a home run to round out the scoring.

RHP Tommy Romero earned the win, throwing five innings. He allowed five hits and two runs (both earned), walking one and striking out three.

The Hot Rods will look to win the series tomorrow night when they send LHP Resly Linares (3-3, 4.38) to the hill. The Captains will counter with RHP Gregori Vasquez (5-5, 3.59). First pitch from Classic Park is set for 7:00pm.
