Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Dayton Dragons scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning and reliever Ryan Nutof worked a scoreless bottom of the 10th as the Dragons defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 7-5 on Wednesday night. The game was the start of a 14-day road trip for the Dragons and the opener to a three-game series in Fort Wayne.

With the score tied 5-5, the Dragons began the top of the 10th inning with their free runner at second base. Hendrik Clementina lined a single to right-center field to bring in the run and give the Dragons a 6-5 lead. Reshard Munroe came in to run for Clementina and stole second. With one out, Munroe went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on J.D. Williams' line drive single to left to make it 7-5.

Nutof retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 10th. Dragons shortstop Jose Garcia made a great diving catch of a line drive to his left to end the game.

Dragons reliever Miguel Aguilar pitched out of a tough jam in the bottom of the ninth with the score tied 5-5 to send the game to extra innings. Fort Wayne had a runner at third base with one out when Kelvin Melean hit a tapper to the side of the mound. Aguilar fielded the ball and make an accurate throw home to get the lead runner on a tag play at the plate for the second out, and then got a fly out to right field to end the threat.

Aguilar (3-1) earned the win and Nutof notched his third save.

The Dragons scored in the first inning for the first time in 10 games, getting a pair of doubles in the inning from Garcia and Lorenzo Cedrola for the run. In the second, they scored again when Williams walked, stole second, went to third on Mark Kolozsvary's single to left, and scored on Garcia's two-out, line drive single to left.

Fort Wayne battled back, scoring one run in the second and four more in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. But the Dragons responded with a three-run sixth inning to tie the score. Mitch Piatnik delivered a run-scoring single, and Alejo Lopez added a two-run double to even the game at 5-5.

Dragons starting pitcher Packy Naughton pitched well before enduring a rough fifth inning. On the night, Naughton worked five innings, allowing five runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Aaron Quillen followed Naughton with two scoreless innings.

The Dragons collected 16 hits for the second time in their last four games. Garcia, Williams, and Kolozsvary each had three hits while Clementina had two. All four Dragons extra base hits were doubles including two by Garcia and one each for Lopez and Cedrola.

They lead the Midwest League's East Division Second Half wildcard race (#2 seed), one and one-half games ahead of both Lake County and Fort Wayne.
