Hot Rods Set Team Record for Wins in April

April 25, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - The 2013 Bowling Green Hot Rods (15-5) have now won more games than any other Hot Rods team in the month of April as Bowling Green claimed their 15th win of the month in a 4-2 win over the Burlington Bees (6-11). Tommy Coyle fell a double shy of the cycle while leading the Hot Rods offense. RHP Dylan Floro earned his second straight victory.

Burlington was the first to score in the contest as the Bees put together a two-out rally in the third inning. With Andrew Ray already on base, Kyle Johnson hit a single to keep the inning alive and send Ray to third base. Ray scored on a single from Pedro Toribio for an early 1-0 Bees lead.

The Hot Rods responded quickly in the home half of the inning with a solo home run for Coyle. Following two outs, Coyle fell behind two strikes against Burlington RHP Aaron Newcomb. Coyle sent the next pitch deep to right field where it cleared the wall into the Bees bullpen for a game-tying blast.

Bowling Green took the lead in the fifth while knocking Newcomb out of the contest. Marty Gantt led off the frame with a double and scored from third on a bloop single by Leonardo Reginatto to take a 2-1 lead. Reginatto was driven in by Andrew Toles for a 3-1 Hot Rods advantage.

Coyle came to the plate for the last time in the seventh inning. With a walk, home run, and single already recorded over his first three plate appearances, Coyle hit a two-out triple to keep an opportunity alive for the first cycle in Hot Rods history. However, Coyle did not get a chance to get the double he needed.

In the eighth, Kevin Moesquit was thrown at home plate on a relay from Joey Rickard to Coyle to Luke Maile during a Kyle Johnson double. Two batters later, Sherman Johnson would bring in Kyle Johnson on a two-out single to cut the Hot Rods lead to 3-2.

Bowling Green got that run back in the bottom of the inning. Justin O'Conner hit a ground ball to Toribio at shortstop that Toles scored on from third base when Toribio's throw bounced off Anthony Bemboom. RHP Matt Ramsey entered in the ninth inning and retired the side to finish the game and record his first professional save.

Game two of the three-game set between the Hot Rods and the Bees will be at Bowling Green Ballpark on Friday at 7:05 PM CDT.
