Burlington Bees News Release

The Bowling Green Hot Rods got some very solid pitching and clutch hitting to defeat the Burlington Bees in the first game of a three-game series on Thursday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Bees (6-11) entered Thursday's game on a five-game losing streak and were hoping a couple days off could turn their luck around, but they were only able to get two runs against a Hot Rods (15-5) team that is in the top three in pitching in the Midwest League.

Burlington got on the board first in the third when Pedro Toribio singled home Andrew Ray. That would be the only run that Dylan Floro (2-0) would give up in his five innings of work. The right-hander allowed five hits and struck out four to earn his second victory of the season.

The Bees lead did not last long as the Hot Rods struck in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Tommy Coyle off of Aaron Newcomb. Coyle finished the evening 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Newcomb ran into some more trouble in the fifth, giving up a leadoff double to Marty Gantt and a one-out single to Leonardo Reginnato. Newcomb was pulled after 4.1 innings, giving up three runs in his Bees debut.

In the eighth, the Bees had a chance to make some noise when Kevin Moesquit led off with a single. However, on Kyle Johnson's double, Moesquit was thrown out at home plate for the first out of the inning. Johnson would later score on a Sherman Johnson base hit.

Matt Ramsey pitched a perfect ninth for his first professional save.
