Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Kent. - With plenty of run support at their backs, four Bowling Green Hot Rods (2-0, 39-30) pitchers combined to no-hit the Lansing Lugnuts (0-2, 32-38), 14-1, on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Blake Snell, Eduar Quinonez (Win, 5-3), Nick Sawyer and Marcus Jensen combined for the nine-inning no-no. It was the second time Lansing has been no-hit this season, joining a seven-inning gem by South Bend's Kyle Schepel from April 14th.
Despite issuing five walks and allowing an error in three innings of work in the start, Snell did not allow a base hit. Quinonez earned the win with three innings of relief work before Sawyer tossed 1.2 scoreless and Jensen finished it off with 1.1 hitless frames out of the pen.
The Lugnuts drew eight walks in total, but could not muster a hit. Their only run came after Jorge Flores led off with a walk in the third off Snell and came around to score on a two-error play by the Hot Rods, bringing Lansing to within 4-1 at that point.
The Hot Rods offense put up plenty of support to keep the pressure off the pitchers. All but one hitter in the lineup recorded a base hit and all but one scored a run.
Leading 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Hot Rods blew the game wide open with an eight-hit, eight-run inning that saw Bowling Green send 13 hitters to the plate.
The bottom of the order played a large part in the Hot Rods offensive explosion, as the 6-7-8-9 combo of Leonardo Reginatto, Joey Rickard, Ryan Dunn and Brandon Martin score the first eight runs of the game. In total, the quartet combined to go 10-for-16 at the plate, scoring nine runs and driving in six.
Lansing starter Ben White (Loss, 4-4) got roughed up in the second inning and was removed in the fourth without recording an out. In total, he allowed eight runs - all of them earned - on eight hits. He struck out two, both in a 1-2-3 first inning, and issued one walk.
The series finale is set for an 8:05 p.m. ET first-pitch on Saturday night with the Lugnuts sending right-hander Roberto Osuna (3-2, 2.43). The Hot Rods will counter with right-hander Dylan Floro (5-2, 2.29).
