Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Jacob Wilson hit a two-run homer and the Peoria Chiefs edged the Beloit Snappers, 4-3, in Midwest League action in front of a crowd of 512 at Pohlman Field on Friday night.
The Snappers suffer their first loss of the second half and are 1-1, 44-28 overall. The Chiefs also find themselves at 1-1, with their overall record at 39-30.
Jordan Walton (2-3, run) grabbed the early lead for Peoria when he started the second with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Wilson provided his blast in the third and the Chiefs surged ahead 3-0.
Renato Nunez got Beloit back into the game in the fourth, as he doubled to left-center, bringing in two runs and shaving the deficit to one. Two innings later, a Christopher Bostick (1-3, 2 runs) single led to the game-tying run. Bostick moved to second on a wild pitch and touched home on a Daniel Robertson single.
The tie was only a brief one, however. A pair of walks put two men on with one out in the top of the seventh and when Ildemaro Vargas laid down a bunt, pitcher Derek DeYoung's (4-3) throwing error allowed the go-ahead run to come across.
Three Chiefs pitchers held that slim margin, with Thomas Lee being the first. Lee (2-0), who also pitched the sixth, got the first out of the seventh before Dixon Llorens took over and recorded the next five outs. Llorens' work included escaping a bases loaded, one out jam in the seventh with a strikeout and a groundout. In the ninth, the Snappers got a man to third with one out, but Robert Stock picked up a strikeout and a lineout to end the game for his second save.
These two squads will square off in game three of this series on Saturday night as Beloit sends out RHP Dakota Bacus (6-2, 3.81 ERA) to try and outdo RHP Joe Cuda (3-3, 3.95 ERA). First pitch time is 7:00pm. The evening will be closed out with a bang, as Budget Truck and Auto Body presents the season's fifth fireworks show.
