Bowling Green hit the scoreboard in the first when Tim Beckman reached on an infield single, moved to second on a passed ball and scored when Kyeong Kang sailed a shot over the right fielder's head for a RBI double and an early 1-0 lead.

The Hot Rods accelerated to a 2-0 advantage when Henry Wrigley reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a walk, and scored on a fielding error by third baseman David Adams.

Neall French circled the bases and put the RiverDogs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when he doubled down the left field line, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Addison Maruszak's sacrifice fly to right to make the score 2-1.

Bowling Green extended its advantage to 3-1 in the seventh frame when Estrada laced a double up the middle and then scored on Beckham's slapped single to right.

The RiverDogs cut into the Hot Rods 3-2 lead in the home half of the seventh when Melky Mesa drew a leadoff walk and then dashed to third when McCormick's throw on a swinging bunt by French sailed into right field for an error. Mitch Abeita lifted a sacrifice fly to the right side foul territory to drive home Mesa.

Charleston starter Hector Noesi (1-1) was charged with one earned run on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven. Reliever Brandon Braboy finished the last two frames and fanned one.
