Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA -The Greenville Drive defeated the Rome Braves 1-0 Sunday afternoon in front of 2,192 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Anthony Rizzo scored from third on a David Mailman sacrifice fly and that's all the runs they would need. The Braves had chances to score in both the seventh and ninth innings. In the seventh, Jesus Sucre doubled to lead off the inning, followed by a walk by Gerry Rodriguez to put runners at first and second. Stephen Shults moved the runners over on a sacrifice bunt, but Rome could not take advantage of the situation as Jahdiel Santamaria struck out and Chais Fuller flied out to end the inning. In the ninth, Luis Sumoza doubled to start the inning and Sucre was able to move him over to third on a ground out. The Braves saw their opportunity to score slip away from them as Rodriguez popped out and Shults grounded out to end the game.
Hunter Strickland (2-4) was the winning pitcher for the Drive, while Brett DeVall (2-2) got the loss for the Braves. Felix Ventura recorded his third save of the season for Greenville.
Rome takes on the Greenville Drive tomorrow afternoon at 1PM. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
