Hot Komets Streak Reaches 6; Haun, Chaulk IHL Players Of The Week

Fort Wayne, IN - The Hot Komet streak continued for the second straight week as the Komets won all three games played during week 14 of 2009-10. The Komets extended their winning streak to six games and are unbeaten in regulation nine straight games (8-0-0-1).

The Komets opened the week with their second straight shutout 3-0 against the visiting Flint Generals Friday. Saturday the Komets rolled over the Thunder at Bloomington 6-2 and returned home to ground the Mallards from Quad City 5-3 Sunday to remain unbeaten in regulation against the Mallards in seven meetings this season (6-0-0-1).

The Komets improved overall to 23-11-0-2 for 48 points and advanced to within seven points of first place in the IHL after 14 weeks.

Komets streaking: P.C. Drouin (LW) scored points in each game of the week for a six-game point streak (5 goals, 5 assists) and a four-game goal-scoring streak (5 goals); Konstantin Shafranov (LW) also had points in each game to extend his point-scoring streak to five games (3 goals, 4 assists); Centers Colin Chaulk (3 goals, 4 assists) and Leo Thomas (1 goal, 3 assists) had points in each game for three-game point streaks; Tim Haun (G) is unbeaten in regulation in seven straight games (6-0-0-1) and has a five-game win streak.

Syro is back.....winger Matt Syroczynski, back from a stint with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals, made his return to the Komet fold count by appearing in all three games of the week and scoring two goals and three assists for a five-point week.

Haun, Chaulk IHL Players of the Week for week ending Jan. 17, 2010 Haun, IHL Goalie of the Week, reaches personal best.....goalie Tim Haun, while being named the IHL's Goaltender of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season, won both games he appeared in to match his personal best of 15 wins in a season while with Huntsville of the SPHL during 2008-09. Haun also posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his career when he stopped all 38 Flint shots Friday night in Fort Wayne for a 3-0 win after stoning the Gems in Dayton the previous Sunday 3-0 on 30 saves. Sunday Haun scored a 5-3 victory over the Quad City Mallards on Coliseum ice making 34 saves on 37 shots. For the week Haun allowed three goals on 75 shots in two games for a 1.50 goals-against average and.960 save percentage. The Solsgirth, Manitoba native pushed his win streak to five games and is unbeaten in regulation seven games in a row (6-0-0-1). Haun's five-game win streak has come over the last two weeks of play capturing two shutouts and posting a 1.26 goals-against average and.964 save percentage. Haun leads IHL netminders with 2.12 goals-against average and.924 save percentage in 24 games.

Chaulk named IHL Player of the Week.....Colin Chaulk (C) was named the IHL Player of the Week for week 14 after appearing in all three games and scoring points in each appearance. The veteran center scored three goals including the game winning tally in Sunday's 5-3 home win over Quad City and added four assists for a seven-point week while posting a plus-four. Chaulk leads the Komets with 27 assists and 39 points in 31 games.

Komets make room for the Circus.....the Komets will skate a couple road games before their next home game Jan. 29 to make room for the Circus at the Coliseum. The Komets travel to Muskegon Friday for a 7pm faceoff at Walker Arena. The Komets then skate at Port Huron Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7pm before they welcome the Quad City Mallards back to Fort Wayne for an 8pm faceoff Friday, Jan. 29.

Schrock, MacMillen at Verizon Saturday.....with no game slated for this Saturday, Komets Kaleigh Schrock and Brad MacMillan will make an appearance at the Verizon Plus store on Coldwater Road, in the Jo Ann Fabrics Shopping Center, Saturday, Jan. 23 from noon to 2pm. Icy the eagle will also be on hand to greet Komet fans while learning all of the newest technology available through Verizon.

Headwaters Park Komet Skate Sunday.....this Sunday, Jan. 24, fans are invited to skate with the Komets at Headwaters Park Ice Rink in downtown Fort Wayne from 2pm to 4pm. Skating at Headwaters Park is $5.00 per person with skate rental available.

Friday night Marathon Nights.....Friday nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer with two fill-ups when the Komets host the Quad City Mallards Friday, Jan. 29 at 8pm. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.
