Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI.--- With the sweep of their most recent week complete and a winning streak that has reached 4-games in a row and first place position in the IHL standings, the Muskegon Lumberjacks are achieving some impressive individual accolades, once again.

On this date, the Lumberjacks, in collaboration with the International Hockey League, have announced that left wing MATT ROBERTSON has been named the MEIJER / IHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for the week of January 11th through January 17th.

The 21-year-old first year pro enjoyed his best week thus far in his brief professional career in the IHL and with the league-leading Lumberjacks. The 5-9, 175lb native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan took and shook the slumber from his lumber in igniting his team to a sweep of 3-games in 3-nights the past weekend, climaxed by a momentous, monumental Muskegon victory Sunday at Port Huron in the IHL showdown for first place.

In that latter contest, the former scoring star for the major junior `A' Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats of the WHL connected on his first-ever three-goal "hat trick" in the professional ranks while adding one assist in the `Jacks 8-4 trumping of the Icehawks. His brilliant 4-points' enormous performance earned him the lofty status of the game's #1 Star as Muskegon halted Port Huron's 11-game winning streak on home ice. Robertson also carded a superb +2 rating, serving the role of supreme catalyst in his team's key, clutch victory which vaulted the `Jacks into sole control of first place atop the IHL standings.

For the week, the hard-working left wing engineered 5-points in 3-games on those 3-goals and 2-assists with 8-SOG and +1 rating.

Having averaged over 30-goals a season in the WHL before his advent to Muskegon, Robertson is presently ranked 11th in IHL league-wide rookie scoring. As his Lumberjacks team reaches the halfway point of the current campaign, Robertson has demonstrated durability. Playing in all 38-games at this juncture of the season, he has recorded 17-points on 7-goals, 10-assists with 10-PIM and 4-PP/assists.

Robertson and the pace-setting Lumberjacks resume IHL action this weekend with a pair of home appearances, hosting Fort Wayne Friday night on "Dave Michayluk Night" and $1 Beer Night before Bloomington comes to town Saturday night on "Credit Union Night." Both games are set for 7:00 pm at Muskegon's Walker Arena. Muskegon's re-scheduled road game at Flint is on the docket for next Monday. January 25th at 7:30 pm at Perani Arena.
