GREENSBORO, N.C. - The West Virginia Power once again brought out the worst in the Greensboro Grasshoppers Friday night.

The Power won 9-0, giving them two shutouts in three nights against the Hoppers. West Virginia took the first game of the series 8-0 and the Hoppers pulled out a 6-5 win in the middle game.

Friday's attendance of 8,801 pushed the season total at First Horizon Park to 412,692. That surpassed last year's mark of 407,711 in the first year of the stadium.

Greensboro had opportunities early against Power starter Matt Kretzschmar, who carried a 5.99 ERA into the game. The Hoppers put the leadoff runner on base in the first three innings but never could take advantage. Kretzschmar (4-4) allowed two hits in five innings, striking out three and walking three.

Nelson Corredor supplied the only run Kretzschmar would need with a solo home run in the third inning off Hoppers starter Ryan Tucker (7-12). An error by shortstop Agustin Septimo followed by a two-base error by left fielder Brad Correll allowed another run to score in the inning.

Mat Gamel hit his 16th home run in the fifth to make it 3-0 and Tony Festa's sacrifice fly followed a triple by Michael Bell in the eighth.

West Virginia tacked on five runs in the ninth with Darren Ford getting two RBIs on a single and Bell cracking a three-run home run.

The Hoppers slipped to 4-9 against the Power on the season.

Greensboro will conclude its home season with games against the Hickory Crawdads Saturday and Sunday at First Horizon. Both games start at 7 p.m.
