Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

(Greensboro, NC) - A Friday night crowd of 8,801 at First Horizon Park pushed the Greensboro Grasshoppers into the record books for the second straight season. Rusty Farmer was recorded as the 407,712th fan to enter the ballpark this season, breaking the all-time attendance record for professional baseball in the city's history.

The Hoppers surpassed last season's record during their 65th home game, remarkably five games earlier than last season.

"We are understandably thrilled with this season," said Grasshoppers President Donald Moore. "Our fans have proven that First Horizon Park will be a successful entertainment fixture in Greensboro for a long time to come."

With this newest attendance record, the Hoppers join prestigious company within Minor League Baseball. Only nine of the 28 teams with new stadiums (built between 2000 and 2004) have increased their attendance during year two.

The Hoppers also set a franchise record of 94,225 for the all-time single month attendance, previously held by May of this season.

The Hoppers welcome the Hickory Crawdads for their final two games of the 2006 season. Fans at the ballpark Saturday will enjoy fireworks presented by Wrangler and lunchboxes to the first 1,500 kids 12 and under, compliments of Murphy Wainer. Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 7pm, with postgame firework presented by Crown Automotive.
