(Eastlake, OH)--The Lakewood BlueClaws reduced their magic number for clinching the SAL Northern Division second-half title to one with a 13-7 win over the Captains Friday night at Classic Park.

Lakewood's Matt Thayer had four of Lakewood's 20 hits. It was the second time this year that the BlueClaws have collected 20 or more hits in a game against the Captains. They had a season-high 21 on May 24th.

The BlueClaws (42-18) rallied with five runs in the seventh inning to erase a 4-2 Captains lead. After three runners reached with two outs against Doodle Hicks (3-1), righthnder Jason Schutt surrendered a two-run single to Clay Harris to tie the game. Designated hitter John Urick then delivered the big blow with a three-run homer off Schutt to make it 7-4.

Captains centerfielder Roman Pena slugged the second of his two solo homers in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-5, but the resilient BlueClaws responded with six more in the eighth against Schutt and Julio Pinto to blow the game open.

The BlueClaws, winners of five straight, need only one win or one Captains loss to clinch the second-half title. If they succeed in winning the division, they will meet Lexington in the first round of the playoffs.

The Captains (31-27) committed two errors in the game, threw two wild pitches and issued six walks.

The Captains and BlueClaws will continue the series on Saturday night at 7:05.
