Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - Strong pitching and an eighth-inning outfield assist by Kenedy Corona helped Corpus Christi secure a 3-2 win over Northwest Arkansas Sunday afternoon at Arvest Ballpark.
In taking four of six from the Naturals, the Hooks return to Whataburger Field with their first road series win of the year.
Corpus Christi, 13-6 since May 14, is one game back of .500 at 25-26.
Spencer Arrighetti, who struck out 12 over five dominant innings Tuesday, blanked the Naturals on Sunday. Arrighetti struck out seven against two hits and two walks in five frames while picking up his fifth consecutive win. The Astros prospect from Katy, TX has permitted just two runs over his last six assignments, covering 32 innings pitched.
The Hooks gave him a run in the second as Colin Barber took advantage of a Corona single and a two-base error with a sac fly to right field.
CC then netted a pair in the third. Nine-hole hitter Garrett Wolforth began the rally with a double down the left-field line. J.C. Correa's single into right and a walk by Zach Dezenzo set up an RBI groundout from Joey Loperfido. Correa later scored the winning run via a wild pitch.
Peyton Plumlee earned the save, striking out six against three hits, three walks and two runs in four innings of work. Plumlee had retired six of seven before an uprising by the Naturals in the eighth made it a 3-2 game. Corona cut down the tying run at home plate with a one-hop throw from right field for the third out. Plumlee then struck out two in a perfect ninth.
