Rochester Honkers News Release
The Rochester Honkers topped the Waterloo Bucks 12-1 in the first game of Wednesday's split doubleheader. Matt Walker (UCLA) earned his first win of the season for the Honkers, allowing one earned run on seven hits in 8 innings pitched. Eric Brown (Gettysburg College) was charged with the loss for Waterloo.
The Honkers offense was effective from top to bottom in the blowout, but Ryan Webberley (Cal Poly Pomona) was easily the best bat, going 2-6 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs.
The Honkers got on the board in the second when William Paschal (Georgia Gwinnett) drove in Scott Schreiber (Nebraska) with a double. Miles Mastrobuoni drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Cole Krzmarzick (Nevada) and Webberley followed that by hitting into a fielder's choice that brought Paschal in for a 3-0 Honkers lead.
In the fifth, Schreiber would hit a single into right field that would bring in Mark Contreras (UC Riverside) to add some insurance and push Rochester's lead to 4-0.
Webberley would hammer a ball over the wall with two outs in the sixth for his third home run of the year, and bring in Mastrbuoni and Paschal, who both reached base on walks, with him to give the Honkers a 7-0 lead.
Waterloo would pick up a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Honkers would respond in resounding fashion in the seventh. Ryan Summers (Louisville) draw a bases loaded walk to score Krmarzick, the Matrbuoni would hit a two-RBI single that brought in Paschal and Bram Grooten (Wentworth Institute). Summers would score on a double from Webberley, and Mastrobuoni would find his way home from third on a wild pitch to set give the Honkers a 12-1 lead.
This was the first win on the road in the season's Scheels Highway 63 Cup series, which now stands at 3-2 with the Honkers out front. The Bucks will get a shot to even it up tonight in Rochester though, as the two meet at Mayo Field at 7:05 p.m. for the second game of the split double header.
