St. Cloud Rox News Release

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox were back at home Friday night after a four game road stint playing host to the Rochester Honkers at Joe Faber Field in a two game series. The Honkers early lead proved too much for the Rox as they fell 8-3.

Rochester took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Max Murphy hit a three-run bomb over the center field fence and a single later in the inning would make it a 4-0 game over the Rox.

In the bottom of the first St. Cloud was able to get on the board, as Devin Pearson and Adam Martin were both walked and with two outs Chris Paul doubled scoring Pearson to trail 4-1.

The Honkers answered in the third as they extended their lead 5-1 on a bases loaded ground out. They continued to move their lead in the fifth putting up three runs, two of which came on a double by Jared Deacon making it an 8-1 game.

St. Cloud continued to battle but were unable to capitalize until the bottom of the eighth as they earned back-to-back walks putting Daniel Comstock on first and Tim Colwell on second. Dustin Breshears loaded the bases hitting a single with no outs on the board. Breshears was followed with a ground out by Blake Headley to bring in Colwell making it an 8-2 game. With a sacrifice fly by Eric Loxtercamp, Comstock was able to score on the throw to trail 8-3.

The Rox were able to get one hit in the bottom of the ninth but the Honkers pitching would cut the Rox short ending the inning on strikeouts.

On the mound for St. Cloud was starting pitcher John Oltman as he put up two innings of work and recorded the loss. Jordan Talbot and Michael Healey also saw action as they each pitched three innings. The Rox closer pitching one inning was Jay Flaa facing four batters and struck out two.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Dustin Breshears. Breshears was at shortstop tonight making some great defensive plays for the Rox and was 1-for-2 at the plate.
