(Rochester,MN) - The Rochester Honkers were unable to complete a two-game sweep as they fell to the St. Cloud Rox 3-2 on Saturday, August 3, at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, MN.

Clay Williamson drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the first inning, stole second base, and came around to score on a RBI single from Adam Martin to give the Rox an early 1-0 lead. The Rox loaded the bases with just one out in the inning, but Honkers starting pitcher Quinn Carpenter (Iowa Western) retired the next two batters to end the inning and limit the damage.

Luke Weber started the bottom of the third inning with a walk and scored St. Cloud's second run of the game on a single from Tim Colwell.

The Honkers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Tyler Baker (Wichita State) reached on a lead-off walk and came around to score on a two-out single from Mike Friel (Hofstra) to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Jared Deacon (Cal State Fullerton) started the top of the sixth inning with a single. He advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Friel, moved over to third on a single from Parker Sullivan (Minnesota State-Mankato,) and scored on Kalei Hanawahine's (Hawaii) RBI ground ball to tie the score at 2-2.

Williamson singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning and stole second base to advance into scoring position. He would eventually score on a sacrifice fly from Martin to regain the lead at 3-2 after six innings.

Max Murphy (Bradley) and Baker started the top of the ninth inning with back-to-back singles, but St. Cloud relief pitcher Adam Maxon was able to turn a double play on a sacrifice bunt attempt and retire the last batter to end the game and pick up his seventh save of the season.

Lucas Long earned the win (5-0) for the Rox. He allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Nathan Roth (Doane College) took the loss (1-2) for the Honkers as he allowed one run on two hits in two innings in relief. Reid Roper (Illinois) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to extend his scoreless innings streak to 25. Carpenter allowed two runs on two hits in four innings in the start.

Rochester (6-21, 24-38) will now travel north of the border to take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Sunday, August 4, at 4:05 p.m. (CT) and conclude a season-long eight-game road trip. Logan Spitzack (St. Cloud State) is scheduled to make the start for the Honkers. The Honkers will return home to Mayo Field on Tuesday, August 6, to host the Battle Creek Bombers and begin a six game home stand to end the regular season.
