Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Honkers stay hot on Thursday night, June 21st and complete the three-game sweep of the Alexandria Beetles by a final score of 9-4.

The big blow of the game was a three-run homerun by third baseman Brandon Defazio (San Mateo) in the top of the seventh inning to stretch the Honkers lead to five runs.

Despite four errors committed by the Honkers, the Beetles would never be able to claw their way back.

After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single from Defazio, Dakota Smith (Kansas) added a two-run homerun in the top of the second to make it an early 5-0 Honkers lead.

Rochester starter Matt Kent (Texas A&M) did not have his best stuff on Thursday, but was still effective enough to earn the win. Kent tossed 7.0 innings and surrendered three earned runs (four total) on six hits while striking out four Beetles to improve his record to 2-1.

Defazio finished the game 3 for 5 with the big home run and six RBIs. First baseman Chad Wallach (Cal State Fullerton) was 2 for 4 with two runs and left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois) finished 2 for 5 with his own two runs scored.

Honkers relievers Nick Williams (Tennessee) and Jordan Milbrath (Augustana) each pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings respectively to seal the victory.

The Honkers (9-14) travel to Willmar on Friday for a 7:05 game with the Stingers (14-9). Rochester starter Tim Zufall (Oral Roberts) makes his second start of 2012 and third appearance overall. Zufall is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

The Honkers are not back at home until Monday, June 25th against Alexandria at Mayo Field.
