Mankato MoonDogs News Release
MANKATO, Minn.--The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club swept the Duluth Huskies Thursday night by winning game three 5-4 in a tight match coming down to the ninth inning at the Frank where the MoonDogs raised just under $2,000 for relief efforts in Duluth after the tragic flooding this past week.
The game was tide at four in the eighth inning when Cody Ferrell (Oklahoma City) came up to bat and was hit by a pitch. Ferrell then used his speed to steal second base. Then the MoonDogs perfected the situation by bunting him over to third. From there Ferrell again used his speed to score on a Huskies wild pitch to take the lead 5-4.
Patrick Goelz (Oklahoma City) came in to pitch and close the game. Goelz recorded another save for the MoonDogs. The game was finalized by a Chase Simpson (Oklahoma) five-three double play by stepping on third for the force out, and simply throwing it across the diamond to first.
McGrath (Louisville) got the start on the mound tonight and went seven innings deep, giving up five hits, and struck out two Husky batters.
Drew Stankeiwicz had a big game at the plate tonight as he went two-for-four with one double and a single.
Despite the close match tonight the MoonDogs played a fantastic series v. Duluth and handled the Huskies with ease extending their winning streak to eight in a row. The MoonDogs will now travel to Alexandria to take on the Beetles and redeem themselves after dropping two of three in the last Alexandria series.
The MoonDogs will be back at the Frank Sunday to take on the Willmar Stingers. Sunday is think Pink Night presented by Liv Aveda Salon & Spa, Mankato Clinic and Hot 96.7. The MoonDogs will help raise breast cancer awareness by wearing pink jerseys and hats that will be auctioned off throughout the night with proceeds going to a local Susan G Komen team.
