Alexandria Beetles News Release

Alexandria , MN - With a pair of runs in the third and the fifth, the Alexandria Beetles turned an early 5-0 deficit into a one run duel. But Rochester (9-14) regained their early advantage with a four-run seventh to send the Beetles (7-15) to a fourth straight defeat on Thursday night.

Jon Reed was touched early by the Honkers on a two-run single by Brandon Defazio in the first, a two-run homerun by Dakota Smith in the second, and another run-scoring single by Defazio in the third.

But the pesky Beetles picked up their starter, who had allowed just one run all season entering the day, and started chipping away off Rochester starter Matt Kent. Josh Guerra doubled with one out in the third, the first base runner for Alexandria on the night, and with two outs, Tanner Vavra singled him home. Dylan Raper followed with a single of his own and when the leftfielder misplayed the bouncing ball, Vavra came around third to score.

Alexandria added another pair in the fifth on two-out hits by Vavra, Raper, and Ryan Padilla to make the score 5-4. But the Beetles would not score again, and in the top of the seventh inning, with Reed still on the mound, Chad Wallach and Justin Parr singled and a potential double-play grounder was booted allowing an insurance run to score. After a sacrifice, Defazio drilled a three-run homerun to blow the game open and make the final score 9-4.

The Beetles remain at home for the start of a two game series with North-division leading Mankato tomorrow night at 7:05 CDT.
