Honkers Score Early But Fall to Bucks

(Rochester, Minn.) - In the full nine-inning game, the Honkers fell to the Waterloo Bucks 8-4 in Waterloo Monday night.

The Honkers plated two runs in the first inning; Casey Worden (UC Riverside) hit a sacrifice fly to score Turner Buis (Cal State Fullerton). Alex Fitchett (Hawaii) added a RBI single to score Drew Ellis (Louisville), to give the Honkers a 2-0 lead.

The Bucks came right back with two runs of their own. Tyler Curtis (Lynn University) hit a RBI double; the Bucks later got another run to tie the game at 2.

The Honkers took the lead back in the top of the second, when Jacob Thomas (UC Davis) hit a sacrifice fly to score Joey Czarske (Cal State Northridge). The Bucks then took the lead in the bottom of the second, when Zach Weatherford (Wright State) hit a two-RBI single to give the Bucks a 4-3 lead.

The Bucks added two more runs in the third, including a solo home run from Robert Neustrom (Iowa), and another two runs in the seventh, including another RBI single from Weatherford, to get an 8-3 lead.

The Honkers were able to make some noise in the ninth, and it started with a double from Jackson Thoreson (St. Mary's). Thomas hit him in on a fielder's choice, to cut the lead to 8-4, but the Honkers were not able to push any more runs across.

Alex Fagalde (0-1) (UC Riverside) got the start and the loss for the Honkers; he pitched five innings, allowed six runs, five of them earned, on nine hits, walked one and struck out six. Houston Gald (NE Oklahoma JC) pitched two innings of relief; he allowed two runs, one of them earned, on three hits, walked one and struck out two.

Jordan Accetta (4-1) (Wofford) got the start and the win for the Bucks; he pitched 6.1 innings, allowed three runs, one of them earned, on eight hits, walked one and struck out two.

Fitchett went 2 for 3 with an RBI to pace the Honkers offense; Buis and Czarske also collected multiple hits.

Weatherford went 3 for 4 with two runs scored to lead the Bucks' offense; Adam McGinnis (Western Illinois) went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and one RBI to help the offense move.

With the loss, the Honkers fall to 7-28, while the Bucks advance to 22-13.

The Honkers are back at home Tuesday to play the Waterloo Bucks on TV Tuesday presented by Sam's Club! One lucky fan will have a chance to win a 40" TV from Sam's Club! First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6:00! The Honkers will then go to Willmar to battle the Stingers on Wednesday and Thursday. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m. The Honkers are back at home Friday to battle the St. Cloud Rox for American Dairy Association Night! It is the 22nd annual Cow Milking Contest!
