Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN)- The Rochester Honkers returned to Mayo Field for the first time in six days and for the first time in the second half to take on the Duluth Huskies. The Honkers squeaked by with the win by a score of 4-3, upping their second half record to 2-1. The Honkers continued their success against Duluth, as they had the Huskies number in the first half, sweeping a two game series in early June.

Aaron Siefken (Jr, Bethany Lutheran) got the start on the mound for the Honkers making his sixth start and seventh appearance on the season. He pitched 6.2 innings allowing nine hits and one earned run, getting his first win on the season and improving his record to 1-3.

Jordan Jakubov (RsJr, Kansas) was first in relief of Siefken, pitching 1.1 innings allowing one run on two hits. He also hit one batter which brought in an inherited runner from Siefken, for the only run that Siefken allowed.

Austin House (So, New Mexico) finished up the game for the Honkers, picking up his second save of the season. The ninth inning didn't lack in drama however, as House allowed two hits, each not leaving the infield, and two errors by the defense, allowing the third Husky run to cross.

Davy Wright (So, TCU) went 3-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI on the day, upping his average to .281 on the season. Scott Thornburg (Jr, Creighton) drove in the deciding runs for the Honkers with a two-run homerun in the seventh inning.

Aaron Jones (Fr, Oregon) was a terror on the base paths today, stealing four bases. Jones also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk.

The Honkers and Huskies will play the middle game of a three game series tomorrow in a 1:05 pm matinee at Mayo Field. The Honkers will have Drew Bowen (RsJr, Oral Roberts) on the mound, making his fifth start of the season. The two teams will finish up their series on Monday at 7:05 pm, before the Honkers take on the St. Cloud River Bats at Mayo Field on Tuesday evening.
