Wausau Woodchucks News Release
BATTLE CREEK, MICH.-July 10, 2011-The Wisconsin Woodchucks got out to an early lead over the Battle Creek Bombers, but they could not pull out the victory, as the Bombers prevailed, 6-3.
Cody Regis stayed hot at the plate for the Woodchucks as he led off the second for the 'Chucks with a solo home run to right field. He also drove in the Woodchucks' second run of the game on a single that brought in Seth Batty. Regis finished the game XXX for XXX with XXX RBI's.
The Bombers tied the game at two in the bottom of the third, though, on a two-run home run by their All-Star third baseman, Troy White.
The 'Chucks took the lead right back in the fifth on an RBI-groundout by Kyle DeMerritt. However, the Bombers scored a run of their own in the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Jordan Dean brought home Brendan Norton, who had tripled in the previous at bat.
In the following inning, the Bombers' Brett Wiley had another triple, and came around to score on a single by Daniel Rockett to give the Bombers a 4-3 lead.
Jordan Luvisi had perhaps his best start this season as he pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, but he kept the Woodchucks close the entire game.
The Bombers added two insurance runs in the eighth to make it a three-run game, and that would be enough, as they defeated the Woodchucks 6-3.
The Woodchucks fell to 2-2 in the second half, while the Bombers advanced to 3-1. The two teams will play again tomorrow night in Battle Creek at 6:05 CST.
