Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
Matt Kent struck out 11 and the Rochester Honkers used two big innings to hammer the Border Cats 14-1 Monday night at Subway Field. Kent took a perfect game into the bottom of the 6th inning, but lead-off batter Ty Stetson (Murray State University) ended the bid with a sharp single to centre field. Stetson moved to second base on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by Jason Vosler (Northeastern University). Vosler is second on the team with 43 runs batted in. The Honkers blew the game open by scoring seven runs in the 6th inning and five more runs in the top of the 7th.
Kent, a lefthander from Texas A & M University, went eight innings and allowed just two hits and no walks to go along with his 11 strikeouts as he improved his record to 5-3. Chris Kerwood (Arkansas State University) took the loss to fall to 4-6. The righthander pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. Kerwood walked two and struck out two.
The Cats (6-24), enter inter-divisional play once again tonight as they welcome the Eau Claire Express to Subway Field for a two-game series starting at 7:05pm. Lefthander Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) will take his 0-2 record to the mound in the opener for Thunder Bay.
