Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Green Bay - Wisconsin Woodchucks starter Curtis Morgan went the distance against the Green Bay Bullfrogs, but the Bullfrogs were able to pull out a 3-1 victory over the Woodchucks.
Morgan and Bullfrogs starter Garrett Harrison would trade scoreless half innings until the Bullfrogs got on the board in the bottom of the third. After a one out walk to Robert Youngdahl, Bryant Burleson doubled into the gap to score Youngdahl and put the Frogs up 1-0. Burleson would score as well on a throwing error by Woodchucks shortstop Tell Taylor to extend the lead to two runs.
Harrison was able to work around several jams in his outing for the Bullfrogs. Harrison finished six innings, allowing no runs on six hits with six strikeouts to his credit. While Harrison was on the mound, he was able to strand a total of eight Woodchucks on base, five of which were in scoring position.
The Woodchucks got creative to push across their first run in the top of the seventh. With Kyle Haen on third and Tyler Adams on first, the Woodchucks put the runners in motion. Adams broke from first base, attempting to steal second. As catcher Ryan Matranga's throw went to second, Haen sprinted from third and crossed home plate to cut the Bullfrogs lead to a run.
The score would remain 2-1 up until the bottom of the eighth. Burleson came through again for the "ÃËFrogs with another RBI double, this one scoring Trevin Sonnier from first to give the Bullfrogs a run of insurance.
Morgan was spectacular in his Woodchuck debut on the mound. Morgan went all eight innings, allowing only two earned runs on five hits.
The Woodchucks continue their seven-game road trip tomorrow when they will head to Duluth, Minn., to take on the Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
