Rox & Stingers Split Final Series Together, 11-3

Willmar, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Willmar Stingers went head-to-head again Monday night at Bill Taunton Stadium to end their final regular season series together. The Stingers took down the Rox by a final score of 11-3.

The Stingers took the lead early in the bottom of the first as Marc Flores hit a bases loaded single scoring two runs for a 2-0 lead over the Rox. With one out in the inning Willmar extended their lead to 3-0 off another single.

St. Cloud found themselves in a two-out situation immediately in the top of the second inning but were able to keep the inning alive as the Stingers walked Blake Headley on four pitches. A double by Dustin Breshears scored Headley putting one on the board for the Rox to make it a 3-1 game. Eric Loxtercamp then followed hitting a single for the Rox to only trail 3-2.

With the bases loaded for the Stingers in the bottom of the second the Rox threw a wild pitch allowing one run to score making it a 4-2 game.

Scoring was stagnant for two and a half innings until the Stingers extended their lead over the Rox in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Halamandaris hit a three-run home run to put Willmar up 7-2 and then a two out single would take the game to an 8-2 lead for the Stingers.

Willmar moved their lead to 8-2 over St. Cloud in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch. The Rox were only able to get one more run in the top of the seventh to trail 8-3 on a groundout to second.

The Stingers sealed an 11-3 victory over the Rox in the bottom of the seventh putting up two runs and holding the Rox to three up and three down in the eighth and allowing only one hit in the ninth.

On the mound for the Rox was starting pitcher Evan Wolf for 4.2 innings of work and recording the loss. Also seeing action for St. Cloud on the mound was Jordan Talbot for 1.1 innings, Jason Condit for one inning, and Bryce Jackson for one inning.

The St. Cloud Rox (32-32, 18-11 Second Half) will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters as they kick off their final home stand of six games. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening one hour prior to game time at Joe Faber Field.

It is a Faith in Action game and youth clinic night at the ballpark presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, YMCA and Northland Capital Financial Services, LLC.

Tuesday game is also "Not Too Old Tuesdays" presented by The Legend's of Heritage Place. The first 75 fans, 60 years & older will receive a Rox seat cushion as well as reserved tickets for fans 60 years and older are half off!
