Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists reeled off their fifth win in their last six games with a 6-4 victory over the Lexington Legends on Friday night. Asheville did not take their first lead of the game until the bottom of the seventh but the strong finish gave the Tourists a series-opening win.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Tourists strung together a two-out rally that featured RBI doubles from Steven Linkous and Bret Boswell as well as RBI singles from Casey Golden and Chad Spanberger. The four-run rally put the Tourists in front 6-3.
Garrett Schilling allowed three runs over eight innings of work. Asheville's starting pitcher retired the first 11 batters he faced before Lexington rallied for a pair in the fourth. Golden hit a lead-off Home Run in the bottom of the fourth and Ryan Vilade added an RBI triple to knot the score up 2-2.
Lexington managed one in the top of the ninth but Tommy Doyle struck out Sebastian Rivero to end the game in style. Spanberger finished 3-for-4 while Golden and Boswell also chipped in with multi-hit performances. Golden has now hit four Home Runs against Lexington in three games.
The eight-inning outing by Schilling is the longest by a Tourists starting pitcher this year. Lexington's starting pitcher, Janser Lara, went five innings and struck out seven in a no-decision.
