ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies surged past the Power and won 6-5 in front of 6,809 fans (second-largest crowd of the season) on Wednesday at Spirit Communications Park. The squad trailed 5-2 and rallied for four runs on six hits in the seventh inning. Three of those hits were infield singles. Jeremy Vasquez, Quinn Brodey, and Rigoberto Terrazas all drove in runs that frame.
UMBRELLA: Thursday's series finale against West Virginia was cancelled due to rain. Because the Power and Fireflies do not meet again in the first-half schedule, the game will not be rescheduled.
REINFORCEMENTS: Pitching coach Jonathan Hurst watched his bullpen dominate in this series against West Virginia. Check out these numbers...
- 3 games: 1.42 ERA, 19.0 innings, 3 earned runs, 19 strikeouts
MAY MADNESS: Columbia and West Virginia have had the first three games of the series decided by a run. Close games have been a huge trend in May.
- 13 of Columbia's 21 games have been decided by just one run
- 9 of Columbia's last 11 games have been one-run affairs
The Fireflies have played the third-most one run games in the SAL all season (18).
STREAKIN': Outfielder Raphael Gladu is currently on a 15-game on-base streak and has hit safely in his last 10 contests. Gladu is hitting .371 during the hit streak and is now one off tying the Fireflies record for consecutive games hitting safely (11 - Rigoberto Terrazas, 2018 & David Thompson, 2016).
STREAKIN' x 3: There have now been three different Fireflies this season to record on-base streaks of 15 games or longer:
1. 29, Jeremy Vasquez (April 5-May 6)* *SAL & franchise-best
2. 16, Scott Manea (April 21-May 12)
3. 15, Raphael Gladu (May 2-present)
WALK IT LIKE I TALK IT: The Fireflies are the only team in MiLB with three players leading their respective league in total walks:
South Atlantic League (Low A)
T-1. Blake Tiberi (COL) - 29 & Matt Winaker (COL) - 29, Jeremy Vasquez (COL) - 29
COLUMBIA'S GREATEST HITS: Scott Manea was hit by a pitch for the 13th time on Monday. He is second in all of professional baseball (MLB & MiLB) in HBPs, behind only San Antonio's (AA, SD) Ty France (19). Believe it or not, France was hit 3 times in a game on April 19 @ Midland.
