Claws Blanked by Dietz, Birds 3-0 on Friday

SALISBURY, MD - Matthias Dietz threw seven scoreless innings to lead Delmarva to a 3-0 win over the BlueClaws on Friday night at Perdue Stadium.

Delmarva (29-17) takes the first game of five from the BlueClaws (25-21) this weekend in Salisbury. Meanwhile, the BlueClaws were shutout for the fourth time this year and third time this week after getting blanked in both ends of a Sunday double-header at Greensboro.

Dietz (5-1) faced the minimum through his first six innings and at one point set aside 15 straight BlueClaws hitters. The right-hander has allowed just one run over his last three starts.

The Shorebirds opened the scoring in the in the fourth on a two-out RBI double by Trevor Craport. He brought home Mason McCoy, one of two walks allowed in the inning by BlueClaws starter Kyle Young.

Krivin Mosequit tripled leading off in the sixth and scored on a groundout by Zach Jarrett for a 2-0 lead.

Young (1-1) came out after six, allowing two runs on three hits. He's allowed just those two runs over 11 innings in his first two starts of the year.

Jonathan Hennigan came on in the seventh and allowed an run on an RBI single by Jean Carillo to put Delmarva up 3-0.

The BlueClaws threatened with two-on in the eighth off Timothy Naughton but failed to score. Naughton threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save.

Jake Scheiner had two hits for Lakewood while Daniel Brito, Nick Maton, and Quincy Nieportehad one hit apiece. Maton hit fourth for the first time this year and has now hit in all nine spots in the Lakewood lineup.

The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Spencer Howard (3-3) starts for the BlueClaws opposite RHP Brennan Hanifee (4-1).
