Rain Shortened Game Goes GreenJackets Way

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 8-4 in a rain shorted game against the Rome Braves on Friday night.

The game would officially be called in the middle of the fifth as rain continued to fall at SRP Park.

With the game tied at one in the third inning, the GreenJackets went to work. Aaron Bond would come around to score to give the GreenJackets the lead after Logan Baldwin reached on a fielding error. Later in the inning, with Manuel Geraldo on third base and Heliot Ramos on second base, Shane Matheny grounded out to first base to score Geraldo. Ramos moved over to third base on the play, then scored after a balk by Huascar Ynoa on the mound.

The GreenJackets didn't stop there. In the fourth inning, they would put up four more runs. Ryan Kirby reached on a fielding error which scored Geraldo. Afterwards, the GreenJackets would score on three wild pitches from Ynoa. John Riley, Ryan Kirby, and Aaron Bond all took advantage of the Braves mistakes to score.

On the mound, Jason Bahr went five innings giving five hits and four runs. With six strikeouts in the game, Bahr once again leads the South Atlantic League in strikeouts with 66.

The win by the GreenJackets now puts their lead to 2.5 games in the Southern Division over the Braves. First pitch of game two of the series will take place at 6:05 pm.
