Lancaster Stormers News Release

Yaibel Tamayo and Terry Tiffee homered, providing just enough offense for the Lancaster Barnstormers Wednesday evening in a rain-shortened, 3-2 victory over the Camden Riversharks at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster climbed to within four games of first place York with the win. The Revs were rained out against Bridgeport.

Camden threatened in every inning against Jeff Bennett (4-0) but could not deliver the big blow. The Riversharks managed to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on doubles by Brian Burgamy and Jonel Pacheco but stranded a pair.

They appeared poised to expand the lead in the third. Lloyd Turner led off with a walk and moved to second on a bloop hit to right center by Noah Hall. However, Bennett, filling in for Matt Wright in the starting role, got Alvin Colina to line to third and Danny Richar to bounce into a 5-4-3 double play, killing the threat.

Carlos Vasquez (10-6) retired the first six batters he faced but walked Brandon Jones to start the home third. Tamayo took a strike, then fouled off a bunt before lofting a home run onto the right field picnic tents for a 2-1 lead.

Camden fought back. Burgamy lined a single through the right side to start the fourth and was forced at second by Jake Eigsti. Pacheco banged a line drive to the base of the right field wall that Jones held to a single as Eigsti raced to third. Toby Hall hit a chopper to short that Tamayo bobbled momentarily and made a late throw to second. Mejia's relay to first cut down Hall for the second out as the tying run scored.

Tiffee reached Vasquez with a two-out solo blast, arced over the left field wall in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-2 lead.

The Riversharks were able to load the bases on a single and two walks in the fifth, but Bennett retired Eigsti on a fly ball to end the threat with that lead intact. Lancaster squandered a leadoff single by Jones, just its third hit, in the bottom of the fifth before the rains struck.

Lancaster will close out its season series against Camden on Thursday evening at 6:30. Lefty Wilkin De La Rosa (2-2) will get the nod for Camden against J.D. Durbin (8-3). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com and ibnsports.com.

NOTES: Tamayo's homer was his first extra-base hit in the Atlantic League...Lancaster is 3-1 in games cut short by rain...Burgamy is 5-for-5 with three walks in the series...Bennett has won two starts and has a save in between since returning from Class AAA Reno.
