New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT- The New Haven County Cutters used a pair of solo home runs by 1B Chris Gaskin and a beautiful pitching performance from Bucky Kosyk to defeat the Grays Monday night 5-2 at Historic Yale Field.

Kosyk (4-0) picked up his fourth win of the season allowing just four hits and one walk in his six and one third innings of work. Kosyk allowed just two runs while striking out six. The Cutters Bullpen pitched a scoreless two and two third with Andy Weimer giving up a lone hit in the top of the ninth. Weimer picked up his 15th save of the season.

Gaskin had a monster day for the home team as he finished three for four at the plate and hit home run numbers two and three on the season. CF Ervin Alcantara and DH Orlando Encarnacion each had two hits in the ball game.

The Cutters got on the board in the second inning thanks to back to back doubles by RF Kevin Whiteside and Encarnacion.

The Grays tied things up at one in the top of the fifth, but the Cutters struck right back in the bottom half of the inning as two runners scored on two separate wild pitches by Grays starter and loser Everett Stull (2-9) to give the Cutters a 3-1 lead.

The Cutters remain two games back of North Shore for first place in the second half standings as the Spirit beat the Brockton Rox 6-5 Monday night. The Cutters will try to continue to close the gap tomorrow night as Ryan Bonesio (7-5) searches for his eighth win. Richard Bartlett (4-7) will throw for the Grays. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M.
