New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The Sussex Skyhawks were relentless in all facets of the game, as their offense clicked in the fifth, and Ryan Dittfurth was filthy from the start.
For the fourth straight game, the Jackals surrendered a run in the first inning. A sacrifice fly by Larry Bethea scored Brian Rios from third. Rob Gandolfo's two-out RBI double two innings later, helped the Skyhawks extend to a 2-0 lead.
The Skyhawks took that 2-0 lead into the fifth when they unleashed a barrage of runs on Jackal starter Kevin Ool. Eight runs were pushed across in the inning, which started with a Brian Rios RBI single. Gandolfo notched two RBI on a double, Bethea picked up an RBI on a groundout, Alex Frazier blasted a two-run homerun, and Kevin Rios pushed in two with a double of his own. The huge inning made the score 10-0 in favor of Sussex, and there would be no scoring after that.
While the Skyhawks offense was blistering hot, their starting pitcher Ryan Dittfurth was untouchable. He allowed just two hits, none after the fifth, walked none, and struck out 11, in a complete game shutout. He retired the last 14 batters he faced.
Ool suffered the loss for the Jackals yielding all 10 runs.
The Jackals never moved a baserunner past first base in the ballgame.
