Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HICKORY, NC - In the 19 games prior, the Lakewood BlueClaws pitching staff had only allowed one home run, however, two blasts, one by Michael Bianucci and one by Matt West sent the crowd home happy with a 6- 3 Hickory Crawdads victory.

The two home runs accounted for three of the Crawdads (11-11) six runs as West homered with a runner on in a four-run third inning and Bianucci hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Three doubles by Crawdads hitters added to the power surge against starter Tyler Cloyd and the BlueClaws (12-9) and the BlueClaws bats did not have enough.

The BlueClaws, down 5-0 in the fifth got two runs back as Travis Mattair singled, followed by a double by Zach Collier and a two-RBI single by Jeremy Hamilton.

The Crawdads got a run back with the home run in the fifth as they took a 6-2 lead before back-to-back singles by D'Arby Myers and Harold Garcia and a sacrifice fly by Anthony Gose made it a 6-3 game.

Starter Cliff Springston (2-1) picked up his second win of the season as he went seven innings, allowing just three hits and two runs before the Crawdads summoned the bullpen. Matt Nevarez recorded his third save of the season as he allowed a bloop single in the ninth, but ended up striking out the side.

After a fantastic start against the Hagerstown Suns, Cloyd (1-2) took a step back on Friday with a six-inning 11-hit performance where he allowed two home runs and six earned. He lost his second game of the season. Esmelvin Jiminez came on in the seventh and threw the ball over the head of Bianucci and was thrown out of the game. Santo Hernandez came into the game and pitched the final 1.1 innings where he walked two and struck out four.

The BlueClaws and the Crawdads, tied at a win apiece in the series will play game three of four on Saturday night at 7 pm. Lakewood will send the league leader in strikeouts Jason Knapp (1-2) to the mound and he will be opposed by Wilmer Font (1-0).
