Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - One night after striking out 21 batters in a game, the Intimidators pitching staff set a new season high, just not the kind they wanted. Kannapolis allowed 18 hits in Friday night's 8-4 loss to the Lake County Captains at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Nate Recknagel led the Captains offensive attack with four hits. Each of the nine Lake County starters had at least one hit and five had multi-hit evenings.

Garrett Johnson (1-3) took the loss in the start, giving up four runs in four innings. Things did not get much better for Adam Bowling, who gave up three runs in one inning. It was Bowling's first appearance in nearly two weeks.

The one bright spot for the pitching staff was Stephen Sauer, who bounced back from a rough outing on Wednesday to pitch three scoreless innings.

At one point the Intimidators (13-9) trailed 7-1, but Sergio Morales got Kannapolis within reach. Morales launched his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, off of Lake County (9-12) starter Paolo Espino (2-1) to make it 7-4. Morales finished 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

John Curtis and Joe Persichina each had multi-hit evenings.

But the Intimidators could never close the gap as reliever David Roberts entered and pitched three perfect innings. Steve Smith, who took the loss on Thursday night, pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
