Home Run in 12th Inning Brings Rox 5-2 Victory over Rochester

Rochester, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox took to the road Sunday starting their six game road stint against the Rochester Honkers. The Rox broke their streak by defeating the Honkers in extra innings by a final score of 5-2.

The Rox were able to get some hits early in the game but were unable to score with the game going scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Rochester took a 1-0 lead over St. Cloud.

Rochester would extend their lead in the bottom of the eighth making it a 2-0 game.

Going into the top of the ninth the Rox had to get the bats going to stay alive. Christian Helsel (Fr., Ole Miss) hit a single to left field and was advanced to second by another single to left field by Dustin Breshears (So., St. John's University). Helsel then advanced to third as Charlie Morgan (Jr., Wake Forest University) flied out to center field. With two outs on the board Breshears stole second base and Devin Pearson (Fr., University of California) singled to right field to tie the game up 2-2.

With the game tied at 2-2 they took it into extra innings. It was not until the top of the 12th inning when the Rox' Devin Pearson led off hitting a single to third base to get the bats going. Pearson then advanced to second as Chris Paul (So., University of California) grounded out to the pitcher. Once again St. Cloud had two outs on the board but kept battling as Carlos Leal (R-Jr., Delta State) hit a single to center field moving Pearson to third base. Next up was Adam Martin (Jr., Western Carolina University) as he hit a three run home run to take the Rox first lead of the game 5-2.

The Rox would hold Rochester to only one hit in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat the Honkers 5-2.

Devin Pearson and Adam Martin were the big hitters for the Rox as Pearson went 4-for-4 including one run and two RBIs, while Martin went 2-for-6 including his three RBI home run.

Earning the win for the Rox on the mound was closer Adam Maxon (Jr., Jacksonville University) as he moves his record to 1-1 on the season. Starting on the mound was Eric Nyquist (So., Mercer University) pitching 6.0 innings of work. Also seeing action was John Oltman (R-Fr., Creighton University) for 1.0 innings and Reese Gregory (Fr., St. Cloud State University) for 3.0 innings of work.

The Rox (6-6, 6-6 North) and the Rochester Honkers (5-7, 5-7 North) will be back in action Monday night to round out their series. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Mayo Field.

St. Cloud will be back at Joe Faber Field June 15-16 as they host the Willmar Stingers. Game times are slated for 6:05 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. respectively. Saturday will be a Baseball Glove Giveaway presented by Central Minnesota Credit Union with the first 250 kids 12 and under receiving the giveaway. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. so show up early and play catch on the field from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It will also be "Ultimate Saturdays" where if you bring your ticket to the Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill after Saturday's home game you will receive a buy one, get one free drink of your choice (only redeemable the night of the game). Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill is located at 1101 Division St. in Waite Park.

The Rox' Sunday's game will be a Father's Day and Men's Health Day presented by Adult & Pediatric Urology. The first 250 kids 12 and under will receive a blue baseball. There will also be a player jersey auction with all proceeds benefiting Men's Health. Coborn's Kids' Day is on Sunday as kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
