Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
On the heals of a perfect four-game home stand, the Lakeshore Chinooks looked to keep things rolling on the road in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday. The two teams first finished a suspended game from opening night. The game resumed with the Chinooks leading 6-2 in the third and Lakeshore held on for a 9-7 win. Game two was highlighted by a pair of Jerrick Suiter (TCU) home runs, including the decisive two-run shot in extra innings, giving Lakeshore a 4-2 win over the Rafters.
Per Northwoods league rules, any game halted by weather that does not complete five innings, must be suspended and completed at a later date from the exact point the game was stopped. In addition, the following game becomes official after seven innings.
Nate Hoffmann (Madison College) took over for starter Eric Anderson and threw into the eighth before the Rafters added four runs to cut a 9-3 lead to two. Andrew Stevenson and San Diego Padres draftee Jace Chancellor (Lubbock Christian) came on to close out the win. The Rafters got on the board first in game two with a first-inning run off of starter Chris Rubio (Concordia University Irvine). Travis Enger (St. Cloud State) answered back in the second with an RBI single scoring Ryan Solberg (UW-Milwaukee). Suiter led off the fourth with his first home run of the night to give the Chinooks the lead back at 2-1. The seesaw battle continued as Wisconsin Rapids added a run in the bottom half to tie the score at 2.
Both pitching staffs held serve through the seventh as the game moved into extra innings. Ryan Krill (Michigan State) was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. That set the stage for Suiter who promptly delivered his second home run of the game over the center field fence to give the Chinooks a 4-2 lead.
Donnie Hissa (University of Notre Dame) finished off his third consecutive scoreless inning to preserve a sixth straight victory.
The series continues tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. before the Chinooks return home for a two game set Monday and Tuesday against the Madison Mallards.
