Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Asheville Tourists held a comfortable lead over the Augusta GreenJackets heading into the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday night. Asheville's lead grew immensely over the course of that half inning thanks to three Home Runs hit in the frame. The Tourists finished off the GreenJackets by a 10-5 final score.
Leading 6-1, Yonathan Daza began the seventh inning fireworks with a two-run Home Run to left field. Three batters later, Max George clubbed a solo Home Run up the left field line. Mylz Jones joined the party by following George's blast with one of his own; a 420 foot towering shot over to deep left field. The three round-trippers gave the Tourists a 10-1 lead and they never looked back.
Asheville scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning as well. Sam Hilliard, Hamlet Marte, and Jones all recorded RBI base hits. Hilliard added a two-run single in the fifth inning. Augusta's lone run off Tourists starting pitcher Trey Killian came in the form of a Skyler Ewing solo Home Run in the fourth.
Killian notched his eighth win of the season with six innings pitched. The Tourists starter scattered five hits and struck out 7 giving him 99 on the season; good for third most in the South Atlantic League.
The GreenJackets managed a pair of runs in the eighth and added two more in the ninth, but the Tourists lead was never in jeopardy. The win kept Asheville from being swept and provides some crucial momentum heading into game one of a four game series against the Greenville Drive.
